Friday Photo: The eclipse

Well that was a bit disappointing!

At 8.30 this morning the sun was shining and there was quite a lot of blue sky about. And then an hour later when the solar eclipse was due the sky had turned all grey and murky!

I managed to get the above photo from down on the beach, only realising when I got home that unless you recognise the promenade street lamp, the photo could have been taken anywhere as there’s no local landmark in shot. But I haven’t cheated, honest! Here’s that grey sky above the Parade Gardens:

I also stood in the back garden for a while late the other night to hopefully see the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights). Absolutely nothing, so at least I saw something today.

I can’t recall the last solar eclipse in 1999 at all – if you’ve got a photo of it (or today’s in fact) with a recognisable local landmark feel free to send it in (news @ this site).

There was an eclipse in 1977 I think? If my mind isn’t playing tricks, I have a (very) vague recollection of being in the playground at Meols Primary when it all went dark. Am I right?
