Here’s a rare photo of the Home Guard at Hoylake. The description of the photo is as follows:
Men of the Cheshire Home Guard manning a 6 pounder naval gun mounted on a field gun chassis at Hoylake on the Wirral, consult a map at Battery HQ, 1 June 1943.
The photo is one of a small number of results when you search for Hoylake at the Imperial War Museum website.
Care to place this photo (tricky I know)? I wonder if it might be in the vicinity of Stanley Road …we’ve seen other photos of the armed forces training on the golf course at Royal Liverpool? And if you’re firing a field gun you’ll need a bit of space of course.
