I just happened to be nearing the end of a run during my lunch hour a couple of weeks ago when I ran past this young man practising his high wire skills.
Well okay, the wire wasn’t so high but the skill and technique was impressive! I’ve seen him and his friends since with a wire across the sand and attached to railings between the prom and the boating lake. The things you see down on the prom!
On a slight tangent, you’ll see the green mounds of grass in the background of my photo. These are clumps that weren’t treated in early August when other large areas of the grass were. The herbicide has worked as most of the grass is now dead (or looks it). That said, some green grass is already starting to sprout again in small areas (where the old toilet block was). Or it just wasn’t particularly well treated I suppose?
My understanding is that a local Friends of Hoylake Beach is being formed to promote the management of the sand and the on-going treatment of the grass. More news on that in due course.
And whilst we’re discussing the beach, you may have heard elsewhere about the controlled explosion that took place a couple of days ago by the “bomb squad” on the sand by Beach Road? It’s possibly best at this stage to not to speculate about an ongoing investigation. However, it is fact that the police have been at a property on Stanley Road for over a week now investigating what is reported to be possible ammunitions and other substances.
