Here’s another old photo from @oldpicposter capturing a busy shore at the slipway to the old lifeboat station.
Presumably this was the start/end point for pony and trap rides along the beach? I’ve no idea of the date of this photo by the way, I’d guess at around 1900.
I wonder who makes a living (in part at least) from working on the prom nowadays? It’s not like there’s a cafe on the prom. Personal fitness instructors, dog walkers and ice-cream vans spring to mind but nothing else off the top of my head. You?
If you’ve missed seeing a Friday Photo over the last couple of weeks that’s because I’ve been away for a week at half-term, then I had the lurghy for a week and now I’m attempting to get back into things. There’s an email mountain that I don’t relish climbing, so don’t hold your breath for a response!
I missed Storm Doris, though it didn’t miss us. Well, it sort of struck. Some slate and mortar fell from our chimney stack and smashed a tile in half on the way down, leaving a bit of a hole (though with felt underneath thankfully keeping the rain at bay). So, I’ve had a man in (up, actually) to fix that. Oddly, none of the flaunching around the chimney pots is missing so maybe what fell was left up there from a previous repair… bit of a mystery. And a big section of garden fence is now only upright thanks to some overgrown ivy. I’m going to have a bash at replacing that myself.
I’ve seen plenty of houses with ridge and roof tiles missing, but hopefully nobody was affected too badly? Funny how these once in a blue moon weather events seem to be happening a little more frequently than that?
