baths from air

A great aerial shot of Hoylake this week posted on twitter by @oldpicposter the other day.

Pictured, of course, is the old Hoylake outdoor pool with the adjacent boating lake. Apparently this photo was taken in 1952, presumably from a light aircraft as we’re definitely talking pre-drone and digital camera era. The pool looks empty though there are people on the beach …closed for the day maybe?

Here’s a photo of the boating lake in black and white from 1931, and a colour one from the 1960s. I’ve published lots of photos of the old baths over the years, but here’s one of an opening gala from 1931.

Without the obvious change from the old baths to the current lifeboat station and the installation of a pirate ship, there haven’t been too many changes in the vicinity. Oh yes, the Parade Garden buildings have changed a bit too over the decades.

The paddling pool to the left of the boating lake… I walked past it on the beach this week and the crack in the wall (pictured here in 2010) looks like it’s getting worse to me?
